The moderate 8x magnification on this version of the Kolibri brings with it a number of really important advantages and makes them ideally suited to many mid-distance outdoor uses like general wildlife and birdwatching.
Firstly enables them to produce a wider field of view than more powerful binoculars which in turn makes it easier to quickly locate and then follow your subjects. In the case of small fast-moving subjects like birds at closer ranges, this can be especially important.
Next, the 8x42 configuration also generates a generously sized exit pupil of almost 5.3mm and thus makes this model a good choice for use in lower light conditions, be that when the sun is below the horizon or exploring thickly wooded areas.
Combined with their twist-up eyecups, the 17mm of eye-relief makes this a good choice of binocular for those who wear glasses.
Whilst not class beating, the minimum close focusing distance on this DDoptics Kolibri 8x42 binocular is about 2.5 meters, for a full-sized instrument, this is good and certainly close enough for the occasional study of objects like butterflies at very close range.
